The Journey That Inspired TerraFauna Journeys: A Passion for Conservation and Travel
Welcome to the first blog post of TerraFauna Journeys! I’m excited to share with you the inspiration behind this venture and the journey that brought me here. As the founder, I have always been deeply passionate about two things: conservation and travel. Little did I know, these passions would come together in the most powerful way to create a business designed to inspire change, one journey at a time.
The Beginning: A Desire for Change
It all started with a simple yet profound realization. In my years of working within the travel industry, I saw an undeniable gap: a need for regenerative principles to be at the core of travel. Often, sustainability is treated as an afterthought rather than a guiding light for how we design and experience travel. Traditional tourism often comes with a heavy environmental and social impact, but there was little emphasis on supporting conservation efforts directly in the destinations travelers visit. I knew that something needed to change.
That’s where the idea for TerraFauna Journeys was born. I envisioned a travel company that would not only take people to beautiful places but also inspire them to care deeply about the ecosystems they were visiting and the wildlife that called them home. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to inspire conservation, one journey at a time.
The Power of Travel to Create Change
In my travels, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the profound connection that people can form with nature. There's something transformative about being immersed in wild spaces—whether it's standing in awe of a wolf pack in Yellowstone or watching the migration of elephants across the African savanna. But what truly struck me was how many of the travelers I worked with were so moved by their experiences that they wanted to do more. They wanted to take action, to give back to the very places and animals they had fallen in love with.
One story that stands out to me is from a trip I designed in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem back in 2017. I was traveling with an older woman, someone who had no family left, and we spent an incredible time together exploring this majestic winter landscape. We encountered bison, elk, and the iconic wolves of Yellowstone—each experience more awe-inspiring than the last.
At the end of our journey, she told me something that would change the course of my life: she wanted to donate her estate to wolf conservation. She was so inspired by her time in the wilderness, she felt compelled to make a lasting impact. However, as I began to help her with her wishes, I realized something unsettling: turning that inspiration into tangible action wasn’t easy. There were many hoops to jump through, bureaucratic hurdles to overcome, and months of work to make her dream a reality.
And that wasn’t an isolated case. I encountered many travelers who, like her, were inspired and moved to take action but struggled to find the right channels and support. This repeated experience reinforced the vision I had for TerraFauna: a company that could not only design incredible, life-changing journeys but also help people turn that inspiration into real, lasting impact.
TerraFauna Journeys: A New Way to Travel
So, here we are—TerraFauna Journeys. Our goal is to provide more than just a travel experience. We want to guide you on a transformative journey that connects you with the natural world and the good people doing that work, in ways that are meaningful and impactful. Through our custom and group travel itineraries, we partner with conservationists and organizations who are doing vital work on the ground. By traveling with TerraFauna, you’ll not only experience some of the world’s most beautiful, untouched landscapes but also directly support the conservation efforts that are crucial to their survival.
Our approach is rooted in regenerative travel—meaning that every journey we design is not just about taking from the environment, but about giving back, helping to restore, preserve, and protect the places and wildlife we cherish. We strive to amplify the impact of conservation projects and ensure that our travels leave a positive legacy for future generations.
